This Learn to Dive Port Douglas PADI Open Water Certification course is over four days, with the theory component held in the Port Douglas Dive Centre classroom, day 2 in the pool, and days 3 and 4 on the Great Barrier Reef!

The first two days of the course are at the diver training centre, where you will learn dive theory in the classroom and the necessary skills for scuba diving in the pool.

Days three and four are on the Great Barrier Reef aboard a modern dive catamaran, during which you will complete four training dives under the direct supervision of your instructor.

At the end of Day 4, you will be a PADI Open Water Diver! You will potentially have the opportunity to do two additional pleasure dives as a certified diver.

The 4-day course comprises two components:

  • Two days of classroom and pool training
  • 2 x 1-day trips to the Outer Great Barrier Reef

What to bring

You will need to bring swimwear, a towel, a dive medical if required, and a passport or Australian driver’s licence.

How to get there

Head north-west of Macrossan Street, towards Park Garrick Street, turn left onto Grant Street, and then in 0.1 kilometres, turn right onto Warner Street.

Important Information

Requirements:

  • Ability to swim – 200m (or 300m with mask, fins and snorkel) and tread water (float) for 10 minutes
  • Minimum age 10 years.
  • Some medical conditions may prevent you from diving. Prior to commencing your dive course you are required to complete the self-assessment Student Diver Medical Declaration. A positive response to any questions indicates there is a pre-existing condition which may affect your safety while diving and you will need to obtain a dive medical certificate that states you are medically fit to dive.
  • If you do require a dive medical, it must be obtained prior to commencing the course and must not be more than 90 days old when you start with us.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS FOR SCUBA DIVING

We have a passion for showing you Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, so please make sure you understand the scuba diving laws.

Queensland, Australia, has some of the strictest scuba diving rules globally and the safest scuba diving record.   The Queensland Government Code of Practice regulates us and comply with all regulations, including medical as is the law.

We strongly recommend that passengers complete our dive medical questionnaire before booking as some medical conditions, age, and medications may prevent you from scuba diving.   Our mission is always to provide our passengers with the very best Great Barrier Reef experience.

If you require a dive medical, it must be obtained before commencing the course and must not be more than 90 days old when you start with us.

Flying after Scuba Diving

For a single no decompression scuba dive, you should not fly or go to altitude for at least 18 hours after a scuba dive.  You should not fly for 24 hours after your last dive for multiple dives.
If Skydiving or Hot Air Ballooning, you must wait 24 hours after your dive.
We recommend waiting a minimum of 24 hours whenever possible.
