Numerous spectacular attractions are waiting for you.

Kuranda is known as ‘the village in the rainforest’. It is surrounded by tropical Rainforest and adjacent to the Wet Tropics World Heritage-listed Barron Gorge National Park.

This picturesque mountain retreat village is just 25km North-West of Cairns and a popular tourist destination due to its beauty.

You can travel to Kuranda via Kuranda’s Historic Scenic Railway, car, bus or with an organised tour.

Back in the late ’60s, the village was known for its alternative lifestyle.

Historic Buildings from the village’s past now house a variety of upmarket restaurants, cafes and bars.

Therefore it is still laid back, though with a style and sophistication that sets it apart from other Cairns Highlands Attractions.

The shops and markets offer exotically handcrafted goods and some amazing Aboriginal artefacts.

What is there to do in Kuranda?

  • The Koala Gardens
  • The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary
  • Kuranda Bird World
  • The Venom Museum
  • Emu Ridge Gallery / Fossil and Gemstone Museum
  • Barron Gorge Walks
  • Barron Falls
  • And the breathtaking lookouts such as Glacier Rock

Another recommendation is to see traditional Aboriginal dancers perform.
Travel on a riverboat on the mighty Barron River or join an Army Duck ride through the rainforest.

With lots of shops Kuranda is a well known day destination but to truly enjoy the ambience this village has to offer you have to stay a few nights.

Whether you are looking for a cosy bed & breakfast, a good hotel or backpackers, Kuranda has enough to offer.

While there are many ways to visit, one of our customers’ favourites is the Scenic Train & Skyrail day trip.
